I created a second user yesterday and had no problem switching back & forth
between users yesterday, but when I turned the computer on today, the only
user account that was there was the one I created yesterday and not my
original one. Where did it go and more importantly how do I get it back???!!!

Your original account was probably "administrator". It is still
there. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del twice when logging on, then type
it into the account field.

Hello Sandi, when a new account with admin privileges is created, and the
only other account on the system prior to that is the built in Administrator
account, then that Administrator account becomes hidden. It is still there.
To access it for XP Pro follow the steps Pegasus gave you. For XP Home, you
need to restart the computer, as the BIOS splash screen disappears
repeatedly tap the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears. One of
the choices is Safe Mode. Highlight that and press enter. Administrator
will then appear on the Welcome Screen.

You should not use the Administrator account for day to day activities. Set
a strong password on it and set it aside to be used if something damages the
normal working account. You can copy the data and settings from that
Administrator account to another account. See these links:
