Switching Local and Remote

I do not know if this makes a functional difference but the obbsesive
compulsive in me wants to resolve the misnomer.

I originally published a web only onto the server of our hosting company.
Better judgement got hold of me and made me realize that I should really
backup the site to my hard drive and from here on out, I should edit the web
on my hard drive and then use FrontPage to synchronize with the version on
the internet host's computer.

When I did this, it called the version that was created on my hard drive the
"remote" and it called the version sitting on the hosting company's computer
(4 miles away) "local". How do I switch it around to what it actually is?

Under FP2003, whichever web / site you open first is your local, and the site that you will be
publishing to is the remote.

In the Publish Site/Web Window, you get two lists: the one on the left is
the "local" and the one on the right is the "remote".

Is that what you mean? Otherwise can you explain further?

Yes indeed. I accidentaly discovered this as follows.
I closed FrontPage and then I reopened the program and then opened the
website from my hard drive. I then stated that my remote publishing site was
the server at the internet host. Naturally, all the files were already
synchronized since the hard drive version had just been created from the
server version 10 minutes earlier.

I have the same problem. I only have a remote site, which I work on without
'publishing'.

How do I create a local site and then persude FP that the local is the local
and the remote is the remote so that I can work off-line etc.

Follow my thread and do what I did. It was trial and error and a sprinkle of
serendipidy (spelling?) when I did it but subsequently I discovered that that
was the way to do it.

Whichever site you open first is considered the local site.

Open your online web with FP, and Publish it to a location on your hardrive
(you'll get prompted to create a website there). Then close the online web
and open the local web, work on the local web then Publish to the online
web.

Naturally, no sooner had I posted than I managed to resolve the problem.

I opened a local site (which FP took to be remote) and then published files
from my remote site (which FP took to be local) to the local site (FP
remote). Having done this FP then switched the sites around so that it
recognised the local as the local and remote as remote.

Thank you anyway.

This isn't working for me. I have my local now as my hard drive copy and
when I update it, it doesn't update to the website location b/c when I hit
refresh in my browser window, it doesn't show the new updated page.

When you open your disc based site in FP and update it won't update your online site unless you:
- switch to the Remote site view and publish changes
(from local - the one that is open - to remote - your online site)
