Switching from slave to master

I have two hard drives and installed XP on the slave drive. Now I want to
switch and make the slave the master. I changed the jumpers correctly and my
bios reads the drives correctly, but I get an error message before XP loads
saying there's a file missing. Any suggestions?

If it was the "slave" when you installed XP, they you have errors in your
boot-up files.
The installation will go on a slave drive, but it still puts critical files
on the "C" drive and has boot files that then point to the slave drive for
the OS. When you switch drives, you confuse the poor machine. Most
likely now you are going to have to do a repair installation.

you dont have the OS installed on the one with error. if you install on a
drive, then you use the cd to install on the other. but then you select
which one to use on startup as the running "main" no matter if it is slave
or master. you delete the OS on the one you want as slave and be careful
what you delete.
