Switch XP from one drive to another

I have 2 hard drives. One 20gig and one 10gig. Xp is
installed on the 20gig with all my programs. I have a lot
of media and databases that I keep on the 10gig which is
running out of room. I'd like to switch the op system and
programs to the 10 gig drive and my media and databases to
the 20gig. Is this possible?

You could probably do it with third party software such as Ghost, Drive
Image or True Image. Norton makes the first two
Acronis makes True Image.

Start storing your media files on the 20g if they are Fat32.
NTFS can read Fat32 on either drive. Otherwise, no issue.
Buy a new hard drive. Over Labor day a 120gb was $60.

It is possible, but a fair amount of work. Do you have a
cd writer which you can use to make a backup of the 10g?
Then you can erase the 10g. Do a disk defrag on the 20g.
If less than 10g is used on the 20g you should be able
to clone the 20g to the 10g with some clone softwares.
BootIt NG has a trial version but I don't know the specifics.
This will require changing the master and slave settings.
You may have to reactivate your new boot drive. With
older hard drives this type of intense disk activity can
precipitate a hard drive failure as it will age the disk.

That is why I think you should start storing media files
on the 20g and delete duplicate media files. Your idea
will not create any more room...larger hard drives also
typically run faster. You can open two instances of
Windows Explorer and drag and drop whole directories
and subdirs and their contained files from the 10g to the 20g.

You have a misconception about what you are trying to
accomplish or you have omitted a critical part of the
explanation as to why you think your method is a good idea.

Stephen

Are these dual booting OS's? If the 10g is a storage drive, don't
bother, it is a bad idea, just store or transfer some files to the 20g.
You write this post like the situation is single boot, xp.

It's just one operating system XP. I thought that storing
all data on one drive and programs and op system on another
would mean less work if a drive crashed (depending on the
drive). I do back my data up onto cd's. Since I have about
7gigs used on the 20 I thought I'd just switch them. Right
now business is slow so I didn't want to spend any money if
I didn't have to. I'll just use both drives.
