I have 4 e-amail names set up in Outlook. When I go to
control panel to change the setting so I have the ability
to switch, the only identity it says is Outlook. I am
using Outlook 2003 with Windows XP. How do I fix this

Do you have 4 profiles or 4 accounts in the one profile, when you go into
the mail icon in Control Panel you should see a show profile button click on
that and it will show you the profiles you have

I guess I don't know the difference between a profile and
an account. I guess I have 4 accounts because I created
each by going tools>e-mail accounts>create new account. I
want to be able to change from one to the other to send
and receive as any of the four.

To set up polling for these accounts go to Tools > Send/Receive >
Send/Receive Settings > Define Send/Receive Groups > place a check in the
"Schedule an automatic send/receive every" checkbox and then Close. This
will take of the receiving email against these accounts. To send from any of
these accounts then start a new mail message and then you should see an
Accounts button by clicking on the Accounts button you can select from which
email account that you wish to send from. If you don't pick an account the
email will go out from the account that you have set as default.

I guess I don't know the difference between a profile and
an account. I created these e-mail addresses by going to
tool>E-mail Accounts- Add new acount
When I go to CP>Mail>profile button- all that shows is
Outlook.

What you see in Control Panel is your profile. What you see under
Tools>E-mail Accounts are your accounts, both of which are stored in your
profile, I believe.
