I'm running a cable modem into a wireless router, which provides wireless
internet access to a variety of PCs in my house. I went wireless for all PCs
because the new cable modem was too far from my ethernet network. I want to
continue to use the ethernet network to move big video files between
computers. Bought a switch for this purpose, and am having problems
configuring the network to both a) see other computers and b) access the
internet. When i enable one functionality, the other goes away:

Any suggestions on how to configure the connections through the switch so
the internet access is not disrupted?

Thanks

Christopher

Are you saying you have a wired ethernet card and also a wireless one
in each pc?

If so, you can put them on different subnets and deal with it by
routing.

Thanks for your response:

Can you point me to some info on creating different subnets? Also, the
ethernet does NOT go through the router -- that's why I introduced the switch
to the system.

Thanks.

If the wireless subnet is (say) 192.168.1.0/24 (ie mask 255.255.255.0)
then make the wired a different subnet (say) 192.168.2.0/24

Use the address of the wireless router as the default gateway.
