.swf will not automatically play in '07

I am running PowerPoint 07, have the latest version of flash player, and have
inserted a shockwave object control into a slide. I have set playing to true
both in the regular list and under custom and have the full path under movie.
When I present the slide, the first frame comes up, but it WILL NOT play
unless I right click on the movie and choose play. When I go back to normal
mode, the control has reset to playing=false. I have tried this now with
several movies that are working on another machine with no problem. Any
ideas? I have tried embedding and not embedding the movie. I urgently need
a fix. Does anyone know where to manually re-register the flash control?

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, no go. They play fine in IE, just not
in power point. Still will only play if I right click and choose play.

Did you try saving the file after you edited the properties and before you
ran the presentation? Also are you saving it as a pptx or pptm format?

I run into the same problem as you describe when I set the active x control
properties for the shockwave object by hand - they don't seem to "stick."

I have had good luck using flashspring to insert my flash files
http://www.flashspring.com/

Flashspring is mainly intended to convert ppt to flash, I think - but if you
download the free trial it has an "insert flash" function that does NOT
expire with the trial.

Of course, I could probably deconstruct what the settings are that
flashspring uses in the active x control and find the glitch when setting by
hand, but so far it is working so I haven't bothered.

That's cool. Do you know if it needs to be installed on the recipient / show
computer? I know SwiffPoint Player works that way, because it uses its own
ActiveX control. (Dunno if it works in 2007 or not, though.) It catches
people off guard -- they don't realize that they need to have SwiffPoint
Player installed on the system that's ultimately running the presentation.
Otherwise the Flash file just sits there, static.

No - I just tested it and it does not need to be installed on the playing
computer.

I don't think it is using it's own active x control - I think it is using
the default shockwave/flash control, but changing the default settings - I
have not gone through settings to see what is different. The problem it
solves is this issue of the settings "Sticking" - I'm not sure why (using
ppt 2007)

One note about moving to a different computer - flashspring puts in the full
path to the flash file - I just manually change it to the file name alone,
and keep the file in the same directory as the presentation
