SVCOST Query

I have been trying to sort out a problem with my scanner, "Scanner
Causing Restarts", and having no joy.

One avenue I am exploring refers to a possible prob with the SVCHOST as
per an HP site:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...ry&product=61840&dlc=en&docname=bps05598#N545

Windows XP
The SVCHOST.exe file not starting when the computer starts can cause the
errors mentioned above.
Verify that Svchost.exe is running

1.
Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, then System
Information. The System Information window will open.
2.
In the System Information window, click the plus ( +) next to
Software Environment.
3.
Double-click Running Tasks and verify that Svchost.exe is listed.
If Svchost.exe is listed, close the System Information window and try
scanning.

When I get to "Running Tasks", I see 6 lines for Svchost, as follows:

Prpcess ID
1012
1108 Not Available
1208
1264 Not Available
1432 Not Available
268

How would I interpret this vis. the HP Rx?

Also: I didn't get far with the "Scanner Causing Restarts", Post
yesterday. If anyone wants to pick up on it, the answer still could be
in there.

Thanks;

But, another blind alley as far as my problem goes.

Something is making my HP 5100c cause restart loops every time I reboot.
As soon as Windows tries to load the Scanner in SysTray… Ka-Bloink; and
I’m stuck having to do a hard shut-down and disconnecting the USB.

Now another snag has appeared: I can’t completely Uninstall the HP
program. There is a residual of 0.23 MB that won’t go. I sub’d error
messages to MS on queue, but there hasn’t been a response as per usual
for some reason.

This snag is driving me nuts.
