svchost

after running for a period of time (hours) several
processes seem to slow down, the mouse responds slowly
etc. Checking task manager - there is an instance of
svchost - local service that is grabbing 33% of the CPU.
I have tried to identfy what is running in this. Tasklist
is not on my computer but I have found a shareware
program wintasks that is supposed to help. It shows the
same instance of svchost not grabbing cpu but it shows
the cpu as running at about 30%. I have tried ending the
process which frees up the cpu and restores performance
but the next time I restart the problem comes back after
I have been running for a few hours. Any thoughts?

.
May be a virus or excess spyware. Check out

http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp

Make sure your virus protection is up to date and run it
regularly. For spyware there's spybot and Ad-aware (among
others) - I'm currently using both daily.
Hope this helps.
