Hi Guys,

I have abit of an issue on some of our XP PC's. The problem I have is
that from bootup the process SVCHOST and in particular one of it's
services "WUAUSERV" windows update service just completly hogs CPU and
MEMORY... It also repeats this periodically throughout the day.

I've been trawling the web and have actioned recommended fixes like:
MS knowledge base entry KB927891 and have also re-registered the
WUAUSERV .dll's and renamed the software redistribution folder and
recreated by stopping and restarting WUAUSERV but have had no joy...

If anyone can offer up and assistance it would be most appreciated.

Cheers in advance.

Try deleting the contents of this folder (or the folder itself) & reboot:

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore

If no joy, try deleting the contents of this folder (or the folder itself) &
reboot:

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution

Also see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891

Workaround: Change the default from Microsoft Update to Windows Update: Go
to Microsoft Update > Click on Change Settings in left pane > Scroll to
bottom of page > To Stop Using Microsoft Update > Disable Microsoft Update
software and let me use Windows Update only (check).
