SVCHOST.EXE wants to access the internet ?

H

Herbert Nagler

New Computer, new OS (XP Home, preloaded with SP2, but not activated yet).
Running AVG and Zonealarm. Can't connect to the internet with my browser
(page not available).
Zonealarm warns of SVCHOST.EXE wanting to access the internet on
239.255.255.250:1900.
(V5.1...generic host process....)
Is it possible, this has to do with an automatic activation/update attempt
by SP2?

AVG finds nothing. Checked manually for files of Welchia Worm:
C:\Windows\System32\Wins Directory is empty.

Any help appreciated!

If you have a new computer with Windows XP SP-2 installed, it is likely that
your OEM installed a version of Windows XP that does not require activation.

---------------
thanks Don,
it's my son's new computer.
Apparently the sales technician told him, that Windows XP still has to be
activated within 30 days via the internet. Also there's some mention of SP2
needing to be activated as from Tuesday (yesterday).(Locale Australia).
Also there's some text in Zonealarm's warning message about ..._SP2......,
which makes me think, it might be a legitimate process.

But I'm not sure.
Thanks again

You probably want to keep that door shut.
