2. Your computer may contain some spyware.....

3. Your system may have incorrect or unsigned drivers.....

You may wish to perform a "tune-up" that may help:

1. Perform a DISK CLEANUP:
(Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup)

2. Go to Start > Run and type: CMD , and hit enter. In the Command
Prompt window type: CHKDSK /F , and hit enter, answer "yes" and
reboot your computer.

3. Afterward, perform a DEFRAG of your hard drive.

NO MODIFICATIONS TO UNSIGNED DRIVERS FROM BEFORE I
STARTED TO EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM

I had a look in the Windows Task Manager under Processes
(no applications appeared to be running) and found 5
instances of SVCHOST.EXE active;

3 showing SYSTEM as USER,
1 showing LOCAL SERVICE as USER, and
1 showing NETWORK SERVICE as USER.

The NETWORK SERVICE process was always in excess of 90%
CPU usage. I've killed that process a couple of times
and the boot-up and network connection immediately
actioned with apparently no side effects.

Is there any method of checking what program causes this
process to run?
