svchost.exe error - help!

Hope this is the right group for this one.

I'm still getting the Error "svchost has generated errors
and will be closed". It only occurs during (dial-up)
internet use and prevents dropping the connection. Stops
printing from the browser as well

I've checked the knowledgebase article 319161 - not using
Novell Groupwise, but still I have altered the registry
keys to Location0 - there was no second location to alter.

Also dealt with the Blaster Worm and the Welchia worm when
downloading the Win 2000 patch 4.

Do I need to apply the MS03-026 patch separately?

Help what else to do?

You do need to install the patch (and other critical updates - go to Windows
Update) - and reinstall it if you installed SP4. Do you have good AV
software?

Your problem remains with the blaster worm. SP4 does not
deal with it. You have to install the specific patch for
it.

When you start up your computer...do NOT connect to the
internet. This is what triggers the svchost.exe error. do
ctrl-alt-delete to get your task manager and look at the
processes tab. You should see "msblast.exe" in your
processes...END that process. Then do a search of your
hard drive for anything that contains msblast.exe. delete
whatever you find. NOW, you should be able to access the
internet to get that patch.

You must have the separate patch. SP4 does not contain
that patch. It will take care of the Blaster and Welchia
worm problems.
