svchost.exe: Application Error

Three or four minutes after connection to my ISP via 56kb
dialup I receive the message "SVCHOST: Application Error"
afterwhich I cannot open other applications or
disconnect. At that point all I can do is reboot. I have
applied W2KSP4 which did not correct the problem. And, I
have scanned for viruses; none were found.

Ditto....except I'm on a LAN...no
viruses...W2KSP4...updated patches...updated virus
definitions...the whole enchilada....and nada (still get
that svchost.exe error.

And I thought it was just me... anyone frustrated yet?
I've tried everything you guys mentioned with no luck
either.

No viruses were found because the virus you guys have is brand new.
You need to update your virus checkers. (Or use Housecalls at Trend
Micro.) Technically you have a worm, not a virus. There is also a
security patch from Microsoft you need to apply. Just google this
newsgroup for recent postings. Lanwench has posted the URLs for the
patch over and over, so I'm sure you can find it easily. No need for
me to repeat her efforts.
