Svchost.exe, alg.exe and SP2

Have had SP2 installed for almost two weeks now. Haven't
had any problems except that ever since installation, I
get firewall alerts when my computer first boots, and
again when I connect to the internet. The alerts are that
svchost.exe and alg.exe are trying to access the
internet. I have Mcafee firewall, so have disabled the
Windows firewall. I don't use ICS (Internet Connection
Sharing), and alg.exe is set to Manual in Services. I
always allow the files access. I have Mcafee antivirus,
Spybot, and Adaware, all are up to date. When I first got
the alerts from Mcafee firewall, I ran Spybot and Adaware,
they found nothing. Is it safe for me to let my firewall
always allow them access, so that I don't get the alerts?

I don't use windows firewall or ICS, so I have alg.exe set to disabled
with no adverse affects. One reason svchost.exe is trying to access the
internet is due to windows update, even if you have automatic updates
disabled. Svchost.exe needs access for the windows update site to work
to scan my system. I have it set in the firewall to ask for
permission, and only grant it when I am specifically at the WU site.

Thanks for the info, Rock. I changed alg.exe
from "manual" to "disabled" in Services, and now I'm not
getting any more alerts from my firewall about it.
As for svchost.exe, if I deny it permission to access the
internet when I get the alert, I'll keep on getting the
alert about every 10 - 15 seconds until I allow it.

Interesting. In my system svchost only asks to access every few hours
or longer and it's always for accessing windows update.
