Svchost Error message

With Outlook Express open while connected to my ISP
(Earthlink) using my Windows 2000 machine I receive the
following error message: "Svchost.exe has performed an
error and windows will close the program". Or words to
that effect whenever I attempt to sen or receive mail.

Any ideas for a fix? Thamks in advance.
