I am also looking for so trouble shooting steps for SUS.
I have the GP setup in a test OU, the updates download and
I get the icon in the system tray that updates are
available except they are supposed to install
automatically?? Any ideas on that? what about trouble
shooting, do I have to make a change and wait 24 hours to
see if it worked?

Any info appreciated

In my experience, if you are a local admin, it will not automatically
install. It will simply tell you updates are available.
