Superscript, subscript, symbols

Is there a means to insert a superscript and subscript on in the same data
character, such as "20+ -" with the +and - one on top of another? Or is there
a symbol that has a + or - on top of one another?

There is a symbol... choose insert symbol, set the font to normal text, it is
listed not far after the normal keyboard characters.
You can also use the keyboard to enter this character if you use it often.
Make sure number lock is on, hold down the alt key and type 0177 from the
numeric keypad, when you release alt, you should see the plus or minus symbol.
