How do you type superscript and subscript in Excel. For
example, how to you superscript 10 in(1+i)10?

anon,

Get the cell into edit mode (F2, or double-click it). Then select the 10,
then do Format - Cells.

That method works fine (selecting the text, then using Format, Cell, Sub/superscript), as long as the text you're formatting is not in a merged cell.... or at least that's what I've found. And I've yet to find a solution

When I subscript text in a cell that's Merged, it looks ok in the Normal or Page Break view, but viewing it in Print Preview, blank spaces suddenly appear befor the subscripted text.

For instance, in the chemical symbol oxygen, O2, the 2 is subscript. when I subscript the 2 it looks fine in normal view, but when I print or do a print preview, it looks like this, "O 2" (except that the 2 is subscript of course)

Would anyone know why Excel does this and/or how to fix it

I use xl2002 and I merged a couple of cells and put H20 into it.

I made the 2 a subscript.

It looked fine on the worksheet in Normal and Pagebreak preview mode (and even
print preview itself).

Just a guess--can you try it using a different printer driver? You don't have
to have the physical printer--just the driver.
