We just replaced all of our Windows 2000 machines with Windows XP machines.
Before we get rid of the old PCs, which is close to 100 machines, we need to
scrub the hard drives and reinstall the operating systems.

I wanted to get suggestions and recommendations on a fast hard drive
scrubbing utility that you have used.

Thanks!

Everything I do is included by Microsoft...

I remove the programs and delete the documents, then I do
disc cleanup and a defrag- all the standard stuff

There is a utility that comes with 2000 and up, called
cipher. It is run from the command prompt- I use cipher
/w:c:\ to triple overwrite the c drive
--details at

Then another defrag, fdisk, format, reinstall

I'm definitely interested in a fast scrubbing utility, since we are hiring
someone to do this project and don't want him to have to sit around forever
waiting for this to finish.

Darik's Boot and Nuke. Have your IT guy burn a bunch of cd's with the
utility, boot the computers with DBAN and hit autonuke.

Hi Marks70
I know this is not what you requested but I have deleted
partitions then recreated them and installed
an operating system, and then tried every recovery or
partition recovery program I could get my hands on, and I have
never been able to get anything recovered from a disk after reinstalling
a OS. I'm not saying it can't be done but I sure would like to find a
program that would do it. That said, Acronis makes one but these things
take a lot of time to run.

Zar http://www.z-a-recovery.com/ref-wipe.htm
makes a free disk wiper or used to anyway.
