Suggestions for a new computer.

bigdaddy

Hi all,

At present I am running AMD Athlon XP 1700 with 1 gig of memory on
Abit KR7A. I do Photoshop and Adobe Premier and no Gaming.

Please suggest me a good stable Mobo

with 2 LAN connectors
plenty of PCI slots
clock able why not, wants to extract the last drop of juice before
upgrading to a faster CUP

CPU Intel or AMD
like to start with the bottom most CPU (same family or compatible with
the mobo) in price range and upgrade as the price drop.

I have 2 ATA hard drives which I like to use at the moment. I do not
know if there is some sort of adopter to convert these hard drives to
SATA. If not than I will have to buy USB DVD writer.

If there is an onboard graphic, well and good otherwise please
suggest some cheapish Graphic card as well.

Memory : 2 Gig fastest available. I believe yet faster memory (DDR 3)
is becoming available and expensive at the moment. Is it possible to
future proof some how.

I suppose I have to buy new PSU, how many watts.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Any well-known brand. Are you proposing to build your new compu?
Overclocking can promote instability, make up your mind what you
want.

The second best thing you can do, given you are using photoshop, is do
all your work from a RAID0 drive. You'll really notice the speed
improvement.
