suddenly sound device error: No sound

Sound worked until few days ago. Computer set to automatically load updates.
Got Message that there was a problem with sound device. Said _ maybe driver
not installed, used by another program, or not functioning. This has happened
once before and someone sent me a link and a process to repair it..
