suddenly, no boot!

Have XP pro, Asus A7N8X deluxe board. 2 yr old system
worked fine Sunday. Monday, boot screen comes up as
normal. The moving blocks under the XP logo screeen go
roughly 4 1/2 times, then screen goes blank. Tried
switching SATA cable and also put Sata drive on secondary
port. Bios recognizes all connections. Tried XP repair
installation. It proceeds for a while, then gives
message "no hard drive found".

Will try to install new hard drive tonite. Any suggestions?

Download a diagnostic utility from the hard drive manufacturer's web
site. This creates a boot floppy. Run the diagnostics from there.
