Suddenly a document modified in Word cannot 'save as' to a networ.

My computer and that of one of my assistants has suddenly created an error
when we try to "save as" a document that we modify. It will save to our own
Hard Drive, and if we create a new document, that will save to the network,
it just will not 'save as' something different from the network to the
network. Curiously, if we simply 'save' the document, that DOES work, (but
then we lose the archiving of the original document).

The actual error message is: "The folder
'E:\........\..........\filename.doc' isn't accessible. The folder may be
located in an unavailable location, protected with a password, or the
filename contains a / or \"

The folder is available (it's where we got the original file from), the
files are NOT protected by password, and apart from the root directory
structure, there are no '/ or \' in the filename (which is usually simply
adding a numeric value to the previous filename.

As stated in the subject line, we've had no problems over the past 15 years,
but just this week, 2 computers only (out of about 9 or 10) have exhibited
this exact problem.

My computer has Windows 2000 Pro and my assistant has Win XP Pro. We both
run Office 2002 (XP??).

Help please!!

I'm experiencing the exact same problem. We have a small home network with
most of our files being stored on an old computer running Windows ME. Most
other office PCs are using XP.

The system has been fine for 5+ years - last week it suddenly giving us the
same error message "the folder may be located on an unavailable volume or is
password protected".

It's making me crazy. Help!

Hi Chet,

this thread is duplicated in the "Word - Application errors" newsgroup under
"Word 2000 - Save As Error: Folder isn't accessible". You might want to
follow that thread as well as it might be the more likely locale for an
answer.

I hope it's resolved soon. This is frustrating.

Chet, I assume you've noted the fix in the other thread. I'm not sure how
the email reminders work, but if you didn't get it there, hopefully you'll
get it here.

The folder may be located on an unavailable volume or protected with a
password
I am having the very same issue on my network. 3 XP PRO systems give the
error, however, 1 XP PRO system is working just fine with the save as. I
have been all over MS & Google but no solution. Please post if anyone finds
a fix.

Check the 'application errors' file under word in this newsgroup (as set out
in my 2nd post here), but the quick and dirty answer is to uninstall the
microsoft update #885250. Everyone has indicated a resolution upon that
update being removed.

Thank You Thank You. 7 hours I wasted today for this issue. You should be
knighted or given an award!

Thanks but I can't take credit for discovering the solution. That was a guy
named Doug, but nevertheless, I'm glad you're up and running again.
