Sudden Lost Internet Connectivity

I have a 4 computer home network that connects to the internet via both wired
and wireless through 1 router a few switches & a cable modem. Until
recently, it all worked perfectly. For no apparent reason, I now cannot
connect to the internet on 1 of the 4 PC's. It is 1 of the 3 wired ones. I
tested the physical wire to that PC with a laptop and that was not the
problem. I tried a wireless USB card on it, but it was no better. I tried
disabling firewalls -both hardware and software, but no change. It runs XP
Home, SP2. I do notice the little yellow Windows Update shield in the tray,
it says downloading updates, 0% complete. Yesterday when it wasn't working,
I crashed something, and the error reporting tool was able to send and
recieve from the internet. That is strange. No other software seems to be
able to - browsers, McAfee Update, Limewire, etc.

The browsers (ie,Avant, Firefox) all have the same problem. The page cannot
be displayed - Cannot find server or DNS error. Sometimes they say they are
opening the page at the bottom, but never do.

Sometimes I can ping other PC's on my network & the internet with no
problem, but other times, some or all of the requests time out. I cannot log
into my router from that PC. I can ping yahoo.com, sometimes I get all 4
packets, but other times some or all are lost.

I read many articles on MTUs and other issues, but nothing seems to have
fixed this. When I tried testing for MTU size on black hole routers it always
timed out.

The IPCONFIG /ALL looks normal except the Node type is unknown.

Any help would greatly be appreciated, I have no clue what to try next. Of
course it is the main family PC.

Type this line at a command prompt, reboot, and try network and
Internet access again:

netsh winsock reset catalog

Thanks for your reply. Before I tried that (rebooting is now in progress, I
tried the NSLOOKUP command and got errors.
DNS Request timed out
Can't find server name for address 192.168.2.75 Timed out
Default servers are not available.
Default server unknown
Address 192.168.2.75

After that I tried pinging my router and 1 of 4 got through, 3 failed.
After doing what you recommended, I rebooted, but there was no improvement.

Then I tried netsh int ip reset c:\ip-reset.log

Still no Luck though. The router and DNS works fine on the other PC's, but
it did not work on that PC with a wireless USB card, or the default wired
card.

Anyway thanks. I'll keep trying and searching. Any other ideas?

Now it doesn't repair the IP address. It seems like my router or something is
blocking it. Somehow, once i loaded Avany browser and it said there was a new
version available, so it temporaRILY connected to the internet somehow. Also
McAFee Firewall saw some inbound activity and was able to run its trace
routune. It was the US Navy clock update thing. Strange, but still no web
pages.

It still always get an initial IP address from the DHCP router.

Any Ideas???
