subwebs or not

I don't read anywhere in FP that I need to put my
discussion forums in subwebs? My current host doesn't not
support subwebs. I've read on this board that subwebs are
a must. Is it important?

It just make it easier to avoid overwriting the content of the discussion
when doing normal updates to the rest of your site, when the discussion web
is a subweb.

Ok thanks. I did notice (before) when I made changes to
the page that holds the contents page; it sometimes wiped
out the threads; not always.

Any suggestions?

I have a table on the page; with a inserted header and
footer. ?
