I am trying to use the subst command on XP but I get the
error invalid parameter. The help says I need to use the
command lastdrive to activate the letters I want. The
only problem is XP doesn't support lastdrive. I am
confused.

Hi,

It needs to end with a backslash: subst c: [x]:\

Note backslash converts a drive letter to a path as in: c: d:\Windows

That's odd. The command "set lastdrive=y" works on my system.
What error message do you get, if any.

I don't use lastdrive and subst x: c:\whatever works fine if x: is not a
mapped or physical drive.
