SubMenus do not show up...(newbie)

Hi,

Migrated from the good old Winnt4 to Win2000 Pro 1 week
back.

I can't figure out what option I set accidently because of
which sub-menus (menu items hving an arrow pointing to the
right) do not appear automatically (as they did in WinNt)

It happens for both Menus (and context menus that come up
on right click).
The sub menu come up ONLY when I click the arrow.

This happens for the windows START menu as well.
I keep the mouse on 'Programs' but nothing happens. When I
click on 'Programs' the installed program-items show up.

why is this?
I expect them to come up after a short delay (a miniscule
delay wud be better) as they did in WinNT.

No Dave,

That does not help.
"Use Personalized Menus" is unchecked.

To repeat my problem, consider the following.
1. Click StartMenu.
2. Move the mouse over the menu (the item below gets
highlghted)
3. Simply keep/ hold the mouse pointer over "Programs"
Nothing happens.

4. One has to click (single click) for the "installed
program shortcuts to appear"

5. Whereas in WinNT they used to come automatically. No
clicking was required.

That sounds like an XP thing, but check the setting of
"MenuShowDelay"
at
HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop
(valid range is 0 to 1000 mSec.)
