subform problem

When I insert a subform and choose single form as the
default view the subform has a sunk in look. Is there a
way I can remove it so that it looks normal?

Go to the Subform property in design mode. (with the subform selected hit F4 or right click and choose properties)

In the Format Tab change the special effect option to whichever you'd prefer.
