Styles in XP

Anne

I am using a text book (supplied by teacher) that is for Word 2000. I am
using Word XP on my computer. My problem is with styles which differs from
the instructions in the textbook. I have to add Comment, Closing and Footer
styles from the Style list to a blank template. As soon as I click on "all
styles" in the list provided by "Styles and Formatting to view others
available, every single style in that list is added to my document, instead
of just the one I want to choose. How can I just add one.

Also, a style named 'Comment' isn't in the list. Is this something that was
in 2000 and has been removed?

Thanks in advance

Hi Anne,

They changed the user interface for Styles for Word 2002 and 2003.

See here for more info:

If you are taking a class in Word, you might want to simplify your life by
returning to the old Format | Style dialog, which your teacher is working
with. The above webpage has instructions on that.

For your specific task of adding styles to a template, the Organizer might
be the way to go, by the way.

Display "All styles" to access the style and use it in the document. Then
change the display back to "Styles in use" to see the list with your style
added. To get the Comment style, you'll have to insert a comment and even
then you may not see it listed, the dirty little secret being that "All
styles" doesn't really mean *all* styles. To see *all* styles, you have to
choose Custom, then select "All styles" there. You can select which styles
you want displayed in the Styles list using the Custom dialog.
