Styles & Formatting

Word 2003
Recently upgraded from 2000 to 2003.
How do I stop the Styles and Formatting panel automatically creating and
showing every little change I do to a character/word.
i.e. I have "BodyText" syle for a paragraph, then I Bold one word within the
paragragh, the styles and formatting panel and style dialog box shows a new
style "BodyText + Bold".
I have tried the autocorrect options but obviously I have not Turned off or
turned on the correct option yet.
I have also tried the options under the Styles & Formatting "Show", again I
have not found the correct settings to stop me seeing these new styles.

Many thanks in advance of your help.

Tools > options > edit - uncheck 'keep track of formatting'.
