Styles Deleting, Saving and Restoring Word 2007

I use 4 types of styles, Heading 1 heading 2 heading 3 normal. I want to
have all the other 16 or so to be displayed, and I'd like to dictate the
order they are presented in the style ribbon, and I have been unable to save
the 4 choices so as to bring them up on a document. I keep getting the
defaults. I assume 2007 has a technique?

Further, I was able using the import export to transfer the styles I want
from the left panel into the right, overwriting what was idently named. Now
when I bring up a new document, I have the styles I want, plus the others I
don't want. How do I get rid of the others.?

Ok, I used import/export to move styles I do want from the left panel to the
right panel writing over the identical names. On new docuemnts, I get the
styules I want, plus a lot of others I don't want. How can I delete them?

You cannot delete Word's built-in Styles (such as Heading Styles). But if
you open the Styles Pane, there are several new buttons at the bottom. One
of these is Manage Styles. Under the Recommended Tab, you can select which
styles you want to recommend and assign a priority which will alter the
order in which they are displayed. You can then click the Options button in
the Styles Pane and choose to display Recommended Styles only.

To add/Remove styles from the Styles Gallery in the Ribbon, you can
right-click the Styles to remove any you don't want. To add Styles, Select
Modify in the Styles Pane and check the 'Add to Quick Styles List'.

To delete styles, simply right-click on them in the Styles Pane and select
Delete.

Ok, I see that, but when I want to modify one of these styles I go thru
Styles Manage and I change the attribute of each of the 4 styles I use, and
check the "use on new documents" box, but when I actually open a new
document, the chages don't come forward. For example, I want a hanging
indent and I modify it thru styles manage, but in a new document, the hanging
indent is gone.

I respectfully disagree. Using the modify command is overridden by the
command in the hierarchal lists, which is the command to you. Hence, you go
to the style you want to change, highlighting it, left click the hierarchal
list and modify the indent adjustments there. This keeps the formatting
between documents I am looking for.

Ok. Let's start this again. Are you trying to reorder the gallery display or
the Styles Task Pane display, or are you saying that when you edit a style
itself, the change is not remembered and goes back to its original default?

I cannot quite understand what it is you want.
