Stuck in Safe mode

I needed to remove a spybot from system. The virus was
quarentined by symantic. I used their instructions to
remove it. I looked at the registry but did not alter
any files there. Now the system will not boot except in
safe mode. I've tried what I know. Is there any way to
get out of safe mode without reloading the OS and
reformating my hard drive? I do not have a complete
backup and don't want to lose everything on my drive

Did you use this method to get into safe mode? If so read through it and note
that at step 4 you uncheck "/safeboot"

Using the System Configuration Utility. If you can start the computer normally
into Windows, then this is the easiest way to restart the computer in Safe mode.
To configure the System Configuration Utility to start the computer in Safe
mode:
1. Close all open programs.
2. Click Start, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
3. Type msconfig and then click OK.
4. The System Configuration Utility appears. Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and
then click OK.
5. You then see the prompt to restart the computer. Click Restart.
The computer restarts in Safe mode. (This can take several minutes.)
When you finish troubleshooting (in Safe mode) repeat these steps, but in step
4, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT," and then close all programs and restart the computer as
you normally would.

Sorry, but I was having a problem creating a new question....

I am stuck in safe mode and it's not allowing a normal restart because I
followed these directions......After checking the safeboot option and
restarting it doesn't go into safe mode. I get an error saying windows did
not start properly use LKgood config or normal startup. It reboots and tries
to open safe mode again. I'm in a loop.
The other problem is that I bought this emachine with xp installed and the
only CD's supplied is a reinstall CD which wipes out all my files.
I know with a xp cd I could get back into the startup and uncheck the
"SAFEBOOT option and I truly believe the pc would start normally and I can
get my files off then format and reinstall everything.

Any Suggestions??????

Accessing Safe Mode. #12

From the above article:-

<snip>"How do I access Safe Mode?"
To access Safe Mode, you have to press F8 as soon as you see booting into windows XP
text. This can sometimes be quite tricky, especially on very fast systems.
You can press F8 during the entire boot sequence, and if you have a dual boot system,
select the OS, press Enter and F8 at the same time to enter Safe Mode.

YES THERE IS!!!
I found on Microsoft XP Downloads "how to create a boot floppy for CD
installation" this creates 6 floppys and will allow you to A:Install XP from
a CD ....OR go to the recovery console, where using BOOTCFG and BOOTCFG/LIST
will show you whats there now and using BOOTCFG/REBUILD you can rebuild your
ini file to start without SAFEMODE. It will ask for the first line which for
me was:
MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION
(second line was): /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

Then when you reboot it asks whice ini command you want to use and you
choose the last one. After rebooting and getting back into windown using RUN
MSCONFIG go to the BOOT.ini tab and move the new line to the top and it will
be the default next time you start.

I hope this helps you as much as it helped me. Without this wonderful group
of people here and in the help & support group I would still be in the safe
mode too!
