When I boot up I am asked for my password, it is accepted, we go to start to
show my desktop, the computer then shows me a logging off box, then saving
settings box and we go back to my orignal enter password screen, at this
point we start over. Please help.

Tried another user? Could be a corrupt profile on that account.
Boot into safe mode?

Hopefully they had you try another account first.. because that really
sounds just like a corrupt profile.

Not to mention that a full reinstall should not be necessary.. Perhaps a
repair install - but that is much better than a full reinstall! Nothing is
generally lost in a repair installation.

In other words - if Microsoft told you "corrupt registry - format and start
over" and they did not have you try safe mode, another account and a repair
install - they are wrong.
