Stuck at "Completing Upgrade.."

I tried upgrading from XP Professional ( Dell XPS with 1 GB RAM ) but got
stuck for 24 hours at the "Completing Upgrade.." page.
I shut down my computer & got XP back!
Any ideas ?

Good Luck. I have the same problem. After 1 week I still don't have a
solution.

I noticed that during the installation that the progress bar goes to about
80% and stops. The hard drive continues to "work" for some time after the
progress bar stops, but like you, even after 24 there is no more hard drive
activitiy and the status still indicates "Completing Upgrade".

If you have any success please post it here, so the rest of us can learn.

I am a psychiatrist & know very little about computers. Guess we should just
wait for the final version of Vista- but it makes me wonder if it is worth
using at all !

I saw another message reporting a similiar problem. In that case the guy
said by unplugging his network/internet connection during the install, his
problem was solved. I tried same last night, but it did not work for me. I
still hung up on COMPLETING UPGRADE. I'll pass that along just incase it
helps someone else.

I have a question.

What is the point of upgrading from a working OS to a Beta OS. I consider
it computing suicide to do this. Surely it is better to run a beta OS as a
seperate install.

Hey guys and girls who are reading this. I was finally able to install it on
my system, Vista Ultimate.. I had to do a clean install due to my having
cloned my present hard drive. You all need to take all cd, dvd burning
software off. You need to take all anti virus software off with a removing
tool from the manufacturer, after you remove it from add and remove. Add and
remove does not take it from your registry. Remove the printer also. Let me
know how it turned out.

I had the same problem trying to upgrade from xp.
Nevertheless i managed the second time to complete the upgrade from xp and
now i have Vista RC1 Ultimate installed and my pc seems to work fine. No
program or any data missing. And the whole system works without problems (so
far so good).
What i did.
I removed all the usb connected devises (this seems to be very important)
I disconnected the internet and network connection (frm the icon in the tray
- not removing any cables)
I de-activated windows firewall
I proceeded with the upgrade which took about 90 minutes
After the completion i connected all the usb devises and all worked fine.
Pay attention if you have devises connected such as mobiles or notebooks
which are using active sync. You have to remove them first of all.
I hope this helps.
Anyway the new os seems very interesting and quite different from what we're
used to.
