I'm having trouble viewing videos online. If anyone can help, I sure would
appreciate it.

I am able to view news videos at www.hamptonroads.com/pilotonline.
I am UNable to view news videos at www.cnn.com or episode previews in the
media center at www.itv.com.

IE locks up and I lose my wireless connection. I have to unplug my router
and plug it back in. It happens whether I'm using my PC or my laptop. I
believe both of these sites use Windows Media Player, which I have, and which
works for other applications. I'm stumped. My boyfriend - a senior network
engineer - and his coworkers, all GEEKS :), are all stumped. I've disabled
pop-up blockers in IE, Google toolbar and Norton Internet Security. I've
even disabled Norton altogether. The problem happens no matter what I do.

I'm running Windows XP Home on a HP Pavilion dv5218nr Notebook PC. I have a
high-speed (cable) interent connection with a wireless home network. I'm
sure, if there's help out there, there is more information you need. I'm
happy to provide it if you can help. Please? :)

Thank you!

Does everything just freeze, or do you get any sort of error message?
Does the same thing happen if you try using Firefox?
What version of WMP are you using?
What SP on Windows XP? Are you up to date on patches/SPs, etc?
If you add *.cnn.com and *.itv.com to your trusted sites in IE, and set the
security there to "Low", does the same thing happen?

The browser just freezes, no error message.

Does the same thing happen if you try using Firefox?
Firefox and Netscape both prompt me to download a plugin (Flash on
cnn.com, unknown on itv.com. Both freeze when searching for the plugin.

What version of WMP are you using?
10.00.00.4036

What SP on Windows XP? Are you up to date on patches/SPs, etc?
SP2, completely up-to-date on all patches, etc.

If you add *.cnn.com and *.itv.com to your trusted sites in IE, and set the
security there to "Low", does the same thing happen?
Yup. :(

You might try downloading & installing Flash Player (& Shockwave) from Adobe
manually....

I am using a Linksys BEFW11S4 version 4 router. It turns out that numerous
folks are having streaming video problems with the latest 1.52.02 firmware.
Buried on the Linksys website is a reference to DOWNGRADING to their 1.50.14
--- or --- reducing the MTU size inside the Linksys router. I did not try
reducing the MTU size, but once I downgraded my router to 1.50.14, POOF!!!!
Video streaming works everywhere now.

Thanks to everybody for their brainstorming and their help!!!
