streaming problems on Win XP (still)

Kevin Jones

I need help fixing a problem related to streaming media, like National
Public Radio's website.

When I attempt to listen to a program like last night's All Things
Considered, and put my cursor on the link for the program or a segment of
the program, the lower left-hand corner of my browser says "JavaScript:
GetMedia (ATC, the date, etc.)".

But nothing happens when I click. I used to have no problems listening to
streamed broadcasts.

I recently (2 weeks ago) I installed all of the latest service paks and
security patches for WinXP from MS site.

I get this result using Internet Explorer 6 or Netscape 7 running in Win XP
with DSL. I'm using latest versions of Real Player and Windows Media
Player.

According to the tool available here:
http://www.visualware.com/support/msjava.html

I already have MS Java VM build 5.0.3810

Thanks for any assistance.

It would be a pain, of course, but you could try a system restore.
You would want to go back for the security patches, of course, and live
without SP1.
If NPR streaming is really important to you...
Apparently the experts out there have not encountered this problem before,
unfortunately. If only you had gotten an error message, they would be all
over your post. :)
