strange startups

Hi,
Can anyone shed any light on this weird problem?? I am running windowsXP
home edition and recently my pc has been refusing to close down!! when it
does close down it immediatly reboots?? Or as has happened on several
occasions, it will close down completly then when I come down in the morning
or return hours later it has rebooted again?? I wonder is there a "ghost"
in the machine!! or something more basic?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I have run a full virus check and that drew a blank.
