Strange Right Channel/Speaker Problem

Hello-

I have a good one here. The right channel/speaker on my PC will
intermittently stop working. However, if I plug and unplug the plug
going to the sound card it will suddenly work again!

I'm getting sick of crawling under my desk everytime I want stereo
sound. Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

Plug a pair of headphones into your soundcard, to see if the problem is
sound card or, speaker and leads related.
best wishes..OJ

Is your sound generated by a sound card or built into the motherboard?
The reason I ask is because I had a similar problem wih the built in
audio where the computer case metal cover that goes over the audio
jacks wouldn't install flush to the motherboard and it kept popping out
the audio plug part way. I ended up giving up and getting a seperate
audio card.

Same problem with headphones...on-board audio. Why would plugging and
unplugging make it work?? TIA

Built in...Looks like I will probably just get a sound card too. It
seems wierd that plugging and unplugging fixes it temporarily. Thanks.

Thanks.

The reason for that is when you push it back in you are applying enough
pressure to make it seat properly. Over a period of time the case's
metal cover thingie has enough spring in it that it pushes it back out.
Next time it happens just push it in a bit or turn it a bit to see if
that's what the problem is. Otherwise you may just have corroded
contacts which reinserting the plug would temporarily clear.
