I have got a strange problem. I have p1V, 160 GB HDD SATA, 512 Mb Ram
in my PC.
I have installed Win Xp and Linux in it. Once it failed to recognize
the HDD and then
I have reformated and install the OS. Again it failed. However I can
able to run my PC
using knoppix. So I thought that it might have problem with HDD. I
changed the HDD
and installed the OS there. It worked fine for a day and then again
failed to load the
Xp. It flashed the following errors

A problem has detected and windows has been shut down to prevent the
damage
to your computer.

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is
identified ....

Technical information
***stop: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005),0xF7590CAD,0xF716A7E4,0x00000000)

***setupdd.sys - address F7590CAD base at F7564000, Data stamp 41107c8f

Kindly help

Thanks in advance

You've either got bad RAM, or a bad mainboard. Of those, bad RAM is more
likely. -Dave

Thanks Dave for reply.
Knoppix loads everything on the RAM and then runs the OS.
Is there a way to check the RAM or motherboard online?

Best regards

Raj - I'm familiar with linux, and it doesn't use nearly as much RAM (or
other system resources) as windows does. So Knoppix running fine is
probably a red herring.

However, you can download memtest86, burn it to a bootable CD, and boot
that. You should only need to run it for about an hour. If any errors are
found, replace your RAM. If NO errors are found after memtest has been
running for an hour, try running it overnight. -Dave

then if you would ship it to me,,,,,cause testing memory in a suspect
machine is retarded

I ran memtest86 and it was showing the following all the time (30 mins)

@X:100B
AX:020D
BX:0000
CX:0006
DX:0000.

This was scrolling all the time.

Please suggest

Raj - How many passes did it complete, and how many errors were found? What
you posted could be random memory addresses. What you need to worry about
is, did it find errors? -Dave
