Strange problem

xp pro, media player 9

For no apparent reason my media player suddenly acts thus:-

Select program ( Media Player) to open, button opens on taskbar, task
manager shows the application running, nothing appears on the screen.
Tried re-installing Media Player 9 , still the same.
What's up ??

Why didn'y anybody answer this with the subject " media player problem" ?
