I would appreciate any advice anyone has on this strange printer
problem.

My system crashed a few days ago and ever since then whenever I switch
on my Epson C66 printer, Windows XP SP2 reports "New Hardware Found". I
go through the process of installaing it, and everything seems to work
OK (file copies, etc, etc all seem OK), accept that at the end of the
process, I get a message saying "There has been a problem. Access is
denied". I thought this might have been something to do with System
Administrator pivileges, but I checked and the only account I have on
the system does in fact have sysadmin privileges.

The strange thing is that although I received the "Access is denied"
message, the printer works perfectly. However, each time I switch the
printer on, I have to go through the whole process once again.

It's driving me crazy. Does anyone have any ideas?

Very many thanks.

Remove the printer from the computer. Go into Safe Mode and uninstall
the printer from Device Manager. Reboot. Turn off the computer.
Reconnect the printer and boot up and see if it works that way.

Alias

Did the printer come with its own driver CD? If so then I suggest
uninstall the printer first, reboot the system making sure the printer
isn't connected when doing this, then connect the printer and when
prompted to insert a CD, insert it and follow the installation routine
as normal.

Also make sure you do a print test.

Now reboot the system to make sure everything is installed correctly.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've tried them all, but alas the
problem remains. On the positive, the printer does actually work even
if Windows thinks it shouldn't. Looks like something that may have to
wait until the next system rebuild. Thanks again.
