Strange Outlook express problem

My Oulook express (I run XP) update my email
automatically. Everytime It does that It says I have a new
email, and then it changes it mind. So every time the
computer looks for new mail it makes a sound as if I had a
new mail, but I don't. I have no idea what the problem
could be.
