I have a small home network connected to a cable modem through a
netgear FWG114P router. All three clients run XP Pro SP2.
When my Dell is connected directly to the cable modem, it works well.
When I connect it to the router it gets a DHCP lease and the correct
gateway and DNS addresses, but won't connect to the internet. I can
ping the router, but nothing beyond it.
When I use the same cable in the same router port to connect another
XP Pro computer, it works fine.
A third computer also works fine using a wireless connection to the
router.
It simply seems that the Dell is happy talking directly to the cable
modem, but doesn't want to play when connected through the router,
even though this works for 2 other computers both running XP Pro.
Any thoughts? I'm running out of ideas and patience!
