Strange Message (Windows 2000 Pro)

I'm sure this isn't the correct forum for W2K problems, but I couldn't find
one for that OS. I looked in older versions, but that only went as far as
WME. If this problem needs to be dealt with in another forum, please direct
me to which one I should use.

I take care of an older machine running W2K Pro, and suddenly, for the past
few months it keeps getting a strange message that I can'd identify. The
title bar reads "IOMgr", and the message body reads "SyncWaitMultiple()
Wait_Failed". There's an "OK" button, but pressing it does nothing. If it's
repeatedly pressed, after quite a few presses, it will go away for a second
then return, and the same action is repeated. The only way I can get rid of
it is by re-logging on or re-booting. After a short time, however it's back.
The computer is a Dell Precision Workstation (4-5 years old) with 2 SCSI
hard drives. Can anyone tell me what's causing this error message, and how
to resolve the problem?

When I try to turn my PC on it is giving a black screen with a blinking
cursor. I use Windows XP and I tried to boot from the CD but no luck. Did I
loose the hard drive

Impossible to say, based on the scanty information provided. Is the
hard drive being properly recognized by the system's BIOS?

The answer to your question is NO, it does not recognize the BIOS. All it
does is it shows the HP logo screen, beeps once and then the black scrren
with the blinking cursor appears

The BIOS does recognize the hard drive, sorry about the earlier response, the
PC was jsut giving a black screen once it starts.
