Strange Graphical Anomolies

Hello,

I'm having a strange issue with my machine - not really a show stopper, but
sort of annoying nonetheless because I have no idea what is causing it, and
can find ZERO information via Google or any other search engine for that
matter indicating that anyone else even experiences this. When one first
turns on their Vista-based machine, they see the load screen with the
loading bar at the bottom, and then that fades out and the orb fades into
view, and they hear the Windows Vista startup sound, after which the logon
screen fades into view. My problem is that the logon screen no longer fades
into view, it snaps into view, oftentimes lagging, causing visual artifacts.
When logging in, the desktop is supposed to fade into view as well, yet
oftentimes it also snaps into view with visual artifacts. After all this,
however, my computer runs just fine.

I have a fairly powerful machine:

Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4ghz
4gb 800mhz DDR2 Crucial RAM
Nvidia Geforce 8600 GTS 512mb video
Creative SBlive 24-bit audio
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
User Experience Rating: 5.4

As I said earlier, I can find no rhyme or reason as to what causes this, and
as far as I know, I'm the only person in the world who has this issue.
Anyone care to explain this, a fix perhaps? Or is this normal to all Vista
users?
