Strange formatting in table of contents: fonts different colours

G

Guest

I have a style called as "MajorTOCHeading", where the font colour is set to
dark blue. Another style is called "Appendix" and the colour is also blue,
but it also has outline numbering applied.

I have specified that the table of contents is built from styles, where
MajorTOCHeading and Appendix are set to TOC level 1.

There are also Heading 1, Heading 2, etc. styles in the document, where the
TOC levels are set to 1, 2, 3, etc. The TOC styles are set to a black font
colour.

When the TOC is built, MajorTOC heading text appears in blue, but the
Appendix does not (it's black). Heading 1, 2, 3 styles appear black.

Does anyone know why MajorTOCHeading appears blue and Appendix does not?
This is driving me crazy!

Thanks,
Christine

Usually when attributes appear mysteriously in the table of
contents, the cause is that formatting has been added
directly to text (instead of to the style definition). What
happens if you select a MajorTOCHeading, press CTRL+Q, and
then update the TOC?

Stefan,

Sorry I should have mentioned that I have updated the table and also,
formatting is not applied locally.

Correction: You should press CTRL+SPACEBAR to remove direct font
formatting. CTRL+Q removes direct paragraph formatting.

Stefan, I have not applied an direct formatting to the text or paragraphs.

The font colour is set onlyfrom the style definition established for
MajorTOCHeading and Appendix styles -- This is what makes the problem so
perplexing!

This does sound very puzzling. If you'd like to send me a *small* sample,
I'll take a look.
