I've been installing windows 2000 on a system. All goes well during
installation, except one error - that the system date is invalid
(1601!).
After install the OS doesn't manage to fully load, failing with
winlogon and rebooting. In safe mode the date error appears, no
amount of changing the date in the date applet helps.
the drwatsn32 log shows
"application exception occured:
app: winlogon
when: 01/01/1601 @ 00:01:15.478"
the dump highlights a mov ecx,[edx] instruction, perhaps the result of
incompatible data being shuttled around from the system date?
What is frustrating is that W2k just doesn't run at all in normal
mode, i could manage by having an auto-date adjustor script/app for
this setup, but cannot even get that far.
The BIOS correctly reports the date as wed, mar 3 2004. I see no
good reason for Windows 2000 to be unable to cope with that when that
same board has run windows 98 and linux before. I'm not convinced
about flashing the BIOS as seemed to be advised in a comparible thread
a few years back, as that's basically hoping that a) it wont kill the
pc and b) it'll make the slightest difference
Any ideas?
