I have two events that are logging after i have installed sp4 on a clean
system.
First:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Winlogon
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1008
Date: 18/01/2007
Time: 9:46:04 PM
User: N/A
Computer: NOTEBOOK
Description:
The enterprise root certificate store could not be updated. (0x8007006e) The
system cannot open the
device or file specified.
..
And then immediatly after it:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Winlogon
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1009
Date: 18/01/2007
Time: 9:46:04 PM
User: N/A
Computer: NOTEBOOK
Description:
The NT Smartcard authentication certificate store could not be updated.
(0x8007006e) The system cannot open the
device or file specified.
..

The system is win2k workstation with all patches. No domain. Logged in as
Admin. No other event issues are logged.
I could only find 1 page on the net that comes close. The resolve was to
make my registry file 10mb+ larger in maximum size. This didnt work. Not even
at 100mb larger. Any help would me great.

Why do you want to make the workgroup name the same as the server? Or
domain?

If you could set the workgroup name to the same as the domain name that
wouldn't get you quick and easy access to the drives and printers.

Suppose you have a Domain User called Fred and a Local user called Fred
on a machine. The full 'username' of the two users would be domain\Fred
and machine\Fred. Each of these users has a different SID (used to
access resources). Even if you *could* make the workgroup name the same
as the domain name these would *still* be different users.

You don't want to connect the laptop to the domain, so when you want to
access Domain resources, you will need to access them using Domain
resources. If you try to connect to a resource you will be prompted for
credentials and you can supply any credentials that are applicable. That
is either domain\user or machine\user and the appropriate passwords. If
it were possible to make the domain the same as the workgroup, then this
would not make things easier for you.

Cheers,

Cliff
