Hello everyone, first of all, I apologize for my bad english.
The problem: I have windows xp, sp2, all ms patches. Some days ago
when i logon with password, the os remains in a sort of stand by, it
reads the HD but doesn't load the desktop. I have made some
experiments and i discovered that the desktop load if and only if I
move the mouse.
What is the problem? I haven't installed new softwares in this period.
Thank u very much for the support.

Hi Daniele

You might want to check the "userinit" value found in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
for any suspicious programs to be loaded before the shell starts.
"c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe" initializes the windows user shell,
so you don't want to remove that ;)

Tom

Be careful

I check the registry and It seems all ok.
I found userinit entry with a strange value:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,
^^
instead of

C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe

but i suppose it's right anyway.
I discovered that the mouse it is not responsable of logon loading.
The logon loading is about 10 seconds slower than normal.
Do u have some ideas?

Hello Daniele

I suppose you didn't mean the "^^"'s wight? The "," comma just delimits
the commands and doesn't have any impact.
Does your Application or System event log state anything abnormal?
(start - run - eventvwr)

Abnormal in which sense? i discovered only a warning about "userenv"
origin (but i don't know what program make that) but it concern the
shutdown operation.
I noticed that also this one is a bit slow (some seconds). Strange.

Thank u very much!

Hi Daniele

Sorry for the dalay, I had off ;)
Are you using roming profiles or are you connecting any network
resources at logon?
Similar problems can be reconstructed when having a non existing
homedrive in the users "Homedrive" attribute in Active Directory.
